NGINIG

Conveying Life Beyond Epilepsy Through 2.5D Film Animated Storytelling

Project Identity

Why We Chose
“NGINIG”

The word “NGINIG” symbolizes the visible effect of epilepsy, particularly seizures, which are often the first thing people associate with the condition.

However, epilepsy is more than its physical symptoms. It also brings emotional, social, and psychological challenges that are often overlooked by society. Many individuals living with epilepsy experience stigma, discrimination, and misunderstanding that can affect their confidence, relationships, and overall quality of life.

Through this title, we encourage audiences to look beyond the seizures and gain a deeper understanding of the lived experiences of people with epilepsy. The project highlights not only the condition itself but also the struggles and resilience of those who face it every day.

Ultimately, NGINIG aims to raise awareness, promote empathy, and inspire a more inclusive society where individuals with epilepsy are understood, supported, and empowered to live meaningful and successful lives.

Project Context

Life Beyond Epilepsy

NGINIG: Conveying Life Beyond Epilepsy Through 2.5D Film Animated Storytelling is a short animated film that focuses on the experiences of individuals living with epilepsy. The project highlights the emotional, psychological, and social challenges they face due to stigma, discrimination, and misunderstanding.

Through the story of Adrian, a young professional diagnosed with epilepsy, the film demonstrates how misconceptions can affect a person's confidence, relationships, and overall quality of life. Using 2.5D animation, the project seeks to create a meaningful and engaging narrative that encourages awareness and understanding.

The film aims to help audiences look beyond the condition itself and recognize the experiences, struggles, and strengths of people living with epilepsy. By combining storytelling and visual media, the project promotes empathy and supports the development of a more inclusive society.

Research Foundation

Review of Related Literature

The Review of Related Literature served as the foundation of the project by providing insights into epilepsy, social stigma, awareness campaigns, and the use of animation as an advocacy tool. These studies guided the development of the story, themes, and overall production approach of NGINIG.

1

Epilepsy

The literature discusses epilepsy, including its causes, symptoms, and the challenges experienced by individuals living with the condition. Understanding epilepsy provides the foundation for the project's narrative and awareness objectives.

2

Stigma & Discrimination

Studies highlight how stigma, discrimination, and misinformation can negatively affect the emotional well-being, confidence, and social experiences of people with epilepsy. These findings helped shape the conflicts portrayed in the story.

3

Awareness & Education

The review emphasizes the importance of awareness campaigns and educational initiatives in reducing misconceptions about epilepsy and promoting public understanding and acceptance.

4

Animation as Advocacy

Existing literature shows that animation and storytelling are effective tools for health communication, allowing complex social and emotional issues to be presented in a more engaging and accessible manner.

5

2.5D Animated Storytelling

Research supports the use of 2.5D animation as an engaging medium for delivering awareness-driven content by combining visual appeal, emotional storytelling, and educational value.

How We Gathered the Review of Related Literature

Information was collected from credible journals, research studies, books, health organizations, and epilepsy awareness resources. The researchers reviewed materials related to epilepsy, social stigma, awareness campaigns, and animated storytelling. Existing awareness films and advocacy materials were also analyzed to identify strengths, research gaps, and effective communication approaches.
